Falling Asleep At The Wheel Part #2 Sheridan WY!

**First published on my newest Exploring blog page earlier today.  Please check it out and the 100+ posts!    http://exarizonagobensonbobcats.blogspot.com/ **

So I try to keep this page as updated and fresh as possible.  But work, my family, and just plain life seem to always be keeping me more than busy.  This is also an Arizona Exploring blog sight for the most part, but every once in awhile I wander and Explore further down the dusty trail and wish to share.  I hope you enjoy the posts--from wherever they may start even half as much as I enjoy taking the pictures and the Exploring.   My long running personal blog page usually gets updated more than this here page---Also full of my pictures and Exploring, but maybe not for the faint of heart, easily offended, any type of snowflake, or those in California who now have a third sex option to put on there drivers licences.  Anyways please also check out that page  at
   www.wyomingjack.blogspot.com

I took a lot of pictures while home and this series may go on for awhile.  So I hope you enjoy the break from local.   Last time I lived in Wyoming several years ago, I also posted several picture filled blogs and they can be easily found by searching key words.   This trip was fun but also very stress filled.   MUCH of the trip was about seeing family and friends.  Although I did not catch up with to many people I know.   I knew I had been away from Sheridan for a long time, after multiple trips to the local Wal Mart did not really find me anyone I still knew.  But I have not been home in six years, and that was a year adventure  after many years away.

My amazing parents!

At the senior center for lunch  with an aunt.
Not sure any of them knew I got this picture.
I try not to use names in any of my blogs  beyond my own
especially with our kids   but with anyone really.   Thus  "an aunt"

The few friends I did catch up were good ones that have been with me for years.
I can't say that about to many people for sure.

More on that and family pictures next blog post.

After I just said the above
a shot at my folks home at the front door. ;)

Part of the front yard before it froze.
I am overly impressed because I can't grow much
and because in Arizona flowers and such are few and far in between.

Just behind my parents house.
As I said   a whole new world.

From the main drag through town a chilly shot of the Rockies.
It was not even October yet and look at all that snow.

I soon took full advantage of having a rental car.
One of many shots present and past I have of this amazing building.

Further down the same road---- just across from the only Starbucks in town.
Some what new at that.
This building turned motel offers a great stay.
More pictures from here in my next post.

Jb's
I worked here several times in my life.   Now closed.
Right across the street was my first real job in my teens, a Perkins restaurant.
Still open.
Jb's has a few restaurants still open, and the jb   really does stand for  Just Better.
Imagine the TV ads....

Shot from just behind the restaurant    before the Little Goose River.

I than found myself up a hill or two by the visitors center.

Large picture filled books for tourists about Sheridan and all of Wyoming can be found here.   But beyond the view is kind of slow area for such an amazing town and large tourist trap.

Easily most sadly is years ago when this used to be filled with water more like a wading pool for all to enjoy.

Than across the street to the game and fish building.
For a quick visit.

Angry beaver

I try to stay away from all snakes in general.

Just down the hill to the Rock Stop gas station.

Beyond the gas pumps.

Further down the hill to historic downtown.
On the outskirts   by the old train depot.
It's for sale now.

Just by the trains     the 10 commandments
one of two places in this town.
Very cool since most places are tearing them down.

Just down from here another train depot turned bar
I might have visited one night.
Finding it the only place still open.

Same corner    The Sheridan Inn
I favorite place for gatherings and Buffalo Bill in the past.

Amazing sculptures fill down town.
Where we are about to Explore.

This one turns at the base

The other train station just down the street turned bar.
Huge place inside.  Neat atmosphere.
Were I first learned that Sheridan has gambling of sorts.
When I left the state years ago, Wyoming had no gambling at all.

Ancient Ford garage.

A new bar on Main Street.
I mainly wanted the 307 sign.

Downtown Sheridan is beautiful.
Most places I have lived and visited in the last ten years have a terrible down town.
Full of garbage, closed stores, and homeless.
Sheridan's has statues all over  parks, and wonders to view.
Also most of the business are open.
Although many of them are tourist traps for more wealthy tourists.
Of course a lot of bars can be found.
And thankfully to me, some great coffee shops.

Just of Main Street but
SALUTE!

The motel lets you walk above Main Street.

View from the sky bridge.
Rush hour traffic!
I had to move away from Wyoming to realize most Dairy Queens are open year round.
Ours -at least used to close in the winter, because it was so dang cold out
no one wanted ice cream.

Walking up to the sky bridge.
Way kool!
Huge bank.
Notice the sign on the wall just behind the elk?
Have I mentioned I am easily amused?
Well I did grow up in Wyoming.

One of twenty some drive through bars.
You can't drink and drive here but ...
This used to be owned by "electric Mike"
He had a microphone for his voice box.
Basically if you had an attractive gal or two in the passenger seats of your car, you could be wearing a school Letterman's jacket and he would sell booze to you.   The fines he did get, were far less than the profit he made.
At least that's what I have heard.   I wouldn't know first hand.

Brew Pub in a very kool building.

I will let you insert your own jokes here.
About cowboys and gays and such.
I do have to note that while I was wondering around nearby Billings I also found a Rainbow Bar.
Just down from here is the library and the huge city park.

This is right across the street from the old Woolworth's building.
Yes Sheridan even had a Pymada shopping store.

Side of the former Woolworth's now visitor information.

Quick side trip down this road to see more statues off the main drag.

World famous.
Randomly I see a King Ropes hat around here in Arizona.
Building was also a fall out shelter thus the sign above the door.

Very hard to see because in a shop window
but a wood inlay table with the Wyoming bucking horse.

Interesting names and business placement.

Was very surprised the Boot Barn was out of business.
Seems to go with the area.
But now where will I buy my boots?

World Famous!

Right after I left the Wyo theatre got a huge make over and expansion.

Store front still on Main.

Just about here is also the Flagstaff PO store or something similar.
Has a little diner and sells cigars and such.
And it's modeled after several places in Flagstaff Arizona
Great coffee!

So these are just some of the amazing statues along the area.
Local artists do them and they are placed for a year or so.
The local business can than buy them, so it was great to see some of the statues that were still there last time I was in town    some six years ago!

Like this one!
Although I do believe it moved down a block or two.

Across from the current court house and the start of Main Street is what used to be a gas station with a well maintained court yard full of statues.

Sign I found amusing
because it is not fully clear what the person is doing behind his dog.

Next post continues Exploring around Wyoming!
